Ramon Coronado, Ph.D., LCSW, MPA is a first generation Latino who was born and raised in South Central Los Angeles. He is a high school drop out who earned his GED at the age of 20.
Ramon is passionate about supporting First Gen students in Higher Education:
Served as a mentor for first gen students in "I am First" program
Student Success Coach to promote student success to first year students
Certified as a Life and Well being Coach
Trained in Domestic Violence Counseling
Ramon earned his Ph.D. in social work from Our Lady of the Lake University where the focus of his studies was addressing mental health in higher education.
Bachelors in Psychology with an emphasis in Human Behavior from Vanguard University
Master of Social work from CSLUB
Master of Public Administration from Cal Poly Pomona
Ramon has been teaching graduate and undergraduate courses in social work for 8 years. He brings a diverse background to the classroom with experience ranging from working with Head Start programs, counseling SED high school students, psychiatric care, consultant on integrated healthcare polices and procedures, and extensive leadership experience.
Ramon was clinical director of a psychiatric hospital where he developed various internship programs related to mental health that hosted an average of 30 graduate and undergraduate students from 9 surrounding universities. He was recognized as:

Behavioral Intervention Team and Lead of Integrated Care Network
Co-Chair the Behavioral Intervention Team to address students that are experiencing emotional and behavioral stressors that are impacting their academic success.
Oversee Integrated Care Network consisting of Counseling and Psychological Services, Disability Resource Center, Student Health Center, and Basic Needs
Develop, implement, and evaluate policies and procedures outlining responsibilities of campus threat assessment team to provide support and early intervention to promote campus safety
Provide education and support through resources, consultation, and workshops to faculty and staff members on working with students in distress.
Build collaborative relationships with community partners to provide supportive resources to students in distress to address emotional stressors.
Coordinate campus wide training and outreach on campus resources and services to students, faculty, and staff.

Given the emphasis of machismo in the Latino community, this study looked to look at the relationship between men and their fathers before and after coming out gay.

Supporting First Generation Students in Distress: A Qualitative Study
